About Sarah

Sarah Hollister
RN, PHN, IBCLC
Welcome to Breastfeeding With Sarah! Here’s some information about my background.
I began studying breastfeeding in 1999 when I was pregnant with my first baby and joined a local La Leche League group. I have been learning about breastfeeding ever since.
I am a Registered Nurse (RN), a Public Health Nurse (PHN) and have been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2009.
In addition to my years working as an acclaimed labor and delivery nurse, I have over 14 years of experience practicing perinatal nursing and clinical lactation in the outpatient community setting. That means I have served families by providing education and support in pregnancy through postpartum and covering the entire span of the breastfeeding relationship, which is often into toddlerhood. This has been in the setting of giving support in home visits, office visits, OB Clinics, multidisciplinary well-child exam visits and full-service lactation clinics. I have also led weekly breastfeeding groups for mothers of infants and mothers of toddlers over the years. As part of my comprehensive lactation care, I practice craniosacral therapy for infants based on my training with Upledger Institute and my mentorship with Osteopathic Physicians who specialize in treating infant suck dysfunction. I have extensive experience in a wide array of areas involving lactation with a scope that spans nearly every topic the lactation consultant profession serves. All together, I have done thousands of lactation consults over the years.

I provide one-on-one prenatal education, birth doula support, postpartum lactation consultations and extended postpartum doula support. In addition, I have a growing library of free “how-to” videos I created based on all the breastfeeding issues, questions and concerns that I have seen come up over these past 26 years. My goal is to rekindle the lost knowledge of breastfeeding so we can be in a community where all families are educated and empowered to have a positive birth and breastfeeding journey.
All the photographs and videos of people I show in this website and in the videos are used with their consent. I am deeply grateful for the generosity of the families who have shared these, as they are doing it in the spirit of helping you have a successful and wonderful breastfeeding journey.
I am a native to Sonoma County and raised my two sons here, both born with midwives and who are now adults. In my free time I am an avid kayaker and gardener. I am also a dedicated practitioner of ancient Hellenistic Astrology, from which I draw archetypal wisdom to support the rites of passage I witness every day with the new moms and babies I serve.
