Prenatal Support

Meet with me in pregnancy to get the best start possible. I provide pregnancy education on a range of health topics in addition to emotional support and referrals. I offer one-on-one childbirth preparation sessions including discussing the stages of labor and birth, positioning in labor, pain management options and development of a birth plan. I also offer prenatal breastfeeding preparation and newborn care sessions.

Birth Support

For those with Medi-Cal and Partnership Health Plan, I can be your breastfeeding doula there at the birth to help with the initiation of breastfeeding and to help support a successful transition from the hospital to home. This service can be in addition to the work that your labor doula provides. My visits with you for education, emotional support and referrals extend a full year through the postpartum period. I have a limited number of clients I can take on to be their labor doula as well. I have vast experience in labor support from my years as an acclaimed labor and delivery nurse and bring to you deeply supportive and effective methods to guide you through your birth experience. Contact me for my availability.

Breastfeeding Support

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with over 16 years of experience providing thousands of lactation consults in the clinical outpatient and home visit setting, I bring to you a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help you have a positive breastfeeding journey. I provide well-lactation care, meaning I come to your home and give education, assessment and support even when things are going well, and can provide anticipatory guidance to keep your relationship strong and successful. I can provide advanced level assessment and care planning for any breastfeeding challenges that may present, to make clear progress to resolve any underlying barriers to breastfeeding success. I collaborate with your and your baby’s doctor/midwife as needed to keep consistency in care. I practice craniosacral therapy which can be an integrative modality in the lactation care you receive. Check out my videos to see me in action doing lactation visits.

Support Group

For my clients I offer a weekly breastfeeding support group through the first year postpartum. Our group is called Breastfeeding in the Wild, and we learn by breastfeeding in community and discussing different topics each week. Our group’s approach is attachment-style natural parenting and we talk about various breastfeeding topics as well as infant development and postpartum wellbeing. This is a space to share how we are feeling, and give and receive genuine support from each other. This model is inspired from the La Leche League lineage from which I started in over 26 years ago. We have a heartfelt ceremony for moms when they graduate from group on baby’s first birthday. We also have other meaningful ceremonies and events throughout the year. This group is an offering at no extra charge for my clients. I consider group a cornerstone to my practice, as connecting clients with each other to build community is foundational to supporting postpartum mental health and supports ongoing breastfeeding success throughout the first year.

Insurance Coverage

My aim is to have contracts with as many health insurance companies as I can so my clients don’t have to pay out of pocket for the basic human right of breastfeeding and perinatal support. Below is a list of the insurance companies I am currently contracted with. I can talk you through what services your insurance covers. If your health insurance is not on this list, please contact me for my private pay pricing for services. I can also provide a Superbill and many (but not all) insurances may reimburse you for my services at an out-of-network rate.

Insurances I take:
Medi-Cal and Partnership Health Plan
Sutter Health
United Health Care
Aetna
Tricare
Most plans that utilize Multiplan and PNOA

3 days after the birth of my daughter we were having feeding difficulties. Determined to breastfeed I saw 4 lactation consultants at Kaiser, 2 pediatricians, 3 chiropractors and I still had no answers or support. I struggled for months & after two glowing recommendations I finally reached out to Sarah Hollister. 2+ hours later I sat in my car with my baby and cried tears of gratitude and relief. In today’s face paced health service world having a provider take the time to listen to you, validate your feelings and truly want to help you is gold. Sarah saved my breastfeeding journey and we’re still going strong almost 2 years later. I will recommend her to anyone I know who’s having a baby. Apart from being a wealth of knowledge, her expertise and the support she offers is priceless. She should be a part of every mother’s “village”. I’m so lucky she was a part of mine.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sarah. Her kindness and compassion are evident in all of the work she does. She truly cares about helping moms and babies succeed with breastfeeding. She helped me through an incredibly difficult start to my breastfeeding journey. With many odds stacked against me (gestational diabetes, severe hellp syndrome and a c-section at 36 weeks) I didn’t believe I would be able to breastfeed my baby. Sarah had the knowledge to know how to help me get through it. She believed in me and knew I could do it even when I didn’t believe in myself. Having her support has been life changing and I will always be beyond grateful for her knowledge and compassion. She is the reason that I am still breastfeeding my now almost two year old. Any time I hear of a new mother struggling with breastfeeding, the first thing I do is recommend they see Sarah. Her calling in life is to help moms and babies and I feel so blessed to have worked with her.

Sarah was a steady and reassuring presence during my transition into motherhood—truly a guiding light. Her calm demeanor and deep knowledge made all the difference for our family.

We worked with her through many phases of breastfeeding. When my son was diagnosed with a tongue tie, Sarah helped confirm it and thoughtfully recommended trusted providers for a frenectomy. She walked us through the aftercare in detail and came to check on his healing within just a few days. When latching became challenging again post-procedure, Sarah was there to guide us with new techniques and, most importantly, to reassure me that things would get better—which they did.

My son also had some tightness on his right side from his position in the womb and getting stuck during birth. Sarah gently worked with him using craniosacral therapy, and within a few sessions, the difference was remarkable.

Later, when my son suddenly started refusing bottles, Sarah was right there again—sharing her wisdom, offering strategies, and helping us through yet another tricky moment.

When I felt lost or overwhelmed, Sarah was the one practitioner who truly made me feel like everything was going to be okay. Her care, dedication, and expertise are unmatched. Months later, I still find myself telling my son about her and how much she helped us. We are so grateful for her!

Sarah’s expertise, calm demeanor, and empathy made her a joy to work with. Without her help, I don’t know how our breast feeding journey would have turned out after coming home from the NICU with our little preemie. We came up with a personalized plan that would meet our goals and she was so supportive every step of the way. She answered all of my questions with ease and was so encouraging. I can’t say enough good things about working together and would recommend Sarah to anyone looking for a lactation consultant.

When we had our first child, Nora, we wanted to do everything we could for her and share the special mother / daughter bond of breastfeeding. The first weeks after birth were incredibly challenging: trips to the ER, Nora losing weight, fighting to get a good latch. We saw one lactation consultant who helped stabilize us but we just couldn’t seem to make any progress. Then we were referred to Sarah by our PCP.

The very first appointment Sarah was able to identify a posterior tongue tie which unlocked the path to breastfeeding. It wasn’t a miracle cure, we had to put in the work every day pumping to increase supply & guiding Nora to the breast, but Sarah was with us every step of the way. She’s been such a valuable source of wisdom and experience, but even better than that she was our cheerleader every time we met. Many times we were on the brink of giving up and her support kept us going.

Nora still takes the bottle, but it’s 80% breast milk and she feeds consistently at the breast at night. Sarah’s last gift to us before we graduated was to open our eyes to our own achievements and to help us find serenity in the victories we were able to achieve. Now we’re proud of the progress we made and spend our days enjoying life with our sweet babe. We can’t recommend Sarah enough, and look forward to working with her again when we have our second.

I discovered Sarah through a friend after sharing the struggles I was facing breastfeeding my newborn. I had seen at least 3 different LC’s with my concerns, all who were comforted baby was gaining weight, and didn’t seem concerned when I spoke of how hard it was for my baby to nurse, and sent us on our way.

When I met Sarah, she held so much space for me to share my feelings and experiences, with no rush. I felt heard, respected, and with her experience I knew I was in the best of hands. She discovered my baby’s posterior tongue tie and our treatment plan was thorough, thoughtful and comprehensive. She saved our breastfeeding journey and with so much kindness, at a very vulnerable time for me. I’m forever grateful and will always recommend her services to anyone breastfeeding!
