Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment for Infant Suck Dysfunction
A painful latch or a baby who isn’t feeding well at the breast can sometimes be a complex issue that isn’t resolved with the basic steps to support breastfeeding. Sometimes a difficult birth process can affect baby’s ability to latch and transfer milk well during breastfeeding and more support is needed to resolve the underlying issues. In this video we’ll learn how the birth process can affect the latch and how to identify the need for a form of treatment called Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, to support these underlying issues. We’ll see a lactation assessment of a newborn baby as well as see a case study involving a baby getting an OMT treatment for a suck dysfunction.
These videos are not a replacement for seeing a lactation consultant in person. I will always try to help identify when one needs to be seen and give links on how to find one in your area for individualized and in-person support. These videos are also not providing medical advice, as each person’s situation is unique and needs to be evaluated by a medical professional in person.
